Re: Being extradited - it usually happens at the most inopportune time
Possession of a controlled substance is a low level felony, but still a felony. Every felony is serious; a conviction results in the loss of civil rights and some restrictions on travel. If convicted, you lose the right to vote, to hold elected office, to serve as a juror and to possess firearms. Additionally, you would find that your employment/career options beome limited.
Felonies are extraditeable. Whether the prosecutor pursues you is another matter. Consider that the cost of evading prosecution, arrests, etc. will ultimately exceed the cost of returning to WA to answer the charges.
If you cannot afford an attorney, contact the Snohomish County Court and request an application for assigned counsel. Contact the prosecutor's office and explain your situation, i.e., logistics of appearing in court and obtaining counsel. Do not discuss the facts of the case.
You can save a little money by hiring an attorney from Snohomish County, who will be familiar with local practice and know how prosecutors tend to handle similar cases, to review the strengths and weaknesses of the case and advise you on your options. Then, when you do appear, you will be better prepared when working with a public defender.
