Fired for criminal conviction
I just had an offer of employment rescinded for a criminal conviction. About 6 months ago I was arrested for slapping my fiance, went to jail and later had the issue deferred.
On the backgound check the company provided me with it shows the date of my arrest-domestic violence, and the court date- deferred.
I have not been convicted, have I? Can they fire me specifically for a criminal convition if I havnt been convicted?

Unfortunately a deferral is a conviction and remains on your record for the period of deferral. Complete the terms and conditions of your deferral and you may be able to ask that the probationary aspect end early. Once the case is dismissed, it no longer counts as a conviction.
