My friend got in a bad accident and the guy gave her a fake number. He's in the military and she found him on a social media website. Can he sue her if she tags him name in a post trying to to obtain his contact information? She thinks he can sue her for defacing his character. Is she correct?

I don't think it is defamation, as long as you don't insult or slander him, or say anything untruthful.
However, it would be much safer to hire an attorney and let their investigator do the investigation. If the accident was serious, you are probably going to want an attorney to represent you in the action to recover money anyway, so the sooner you get that person involved, the better.
