Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
giving someone elses name when caught shoplifting
if a person were caught shoplifting and used their sisters name could the sister just prove she was at work? Would they pursue it?
If she just contacted the court before her arraingment and brougnt proof she was working would she even have to go to court?

Yes, the sister could prove she was at work. She'd likely need to go through arraignment and probably a few hearings, perhaps even trial, to prove so.

How much alike do the sisters look?
While the falsely accused sister may have an alibi, it is not unconceivable that she would nevertheless be convicted if the prosecutor convinces the jury to convict the sister.
The falsely accused should get her own attorney.
While she has no legal duty to find or help the prosecutor find the real defendant, she may have to consider doing that if the prosecutor has enough evidence to convict her.
