Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Grave Injustice...

I am currently a full-time student; and I recently applied for an off campus job at the local museum. But, the catch is that i have a theft III degree on my record. the reason behind this charge is, I got a DUI while using my roomates car. Originally the charge was unlawful use of a motor vehical withou owners permission. That cahrg was reduced to the theft in the third degree. but it is still showing up on my criminal record as the origional charge along with theft III. If this denies my from getting this job could I possibly file a suit against the sate of washingtion? I prevoisly talked to the county clerck and she said,''Their is nothing I can do, because it is a multi-million dollar problem; and the state of WA will not fix it.'' I am currently 21, and I am moving on with my life. I see my prevois mistakes as being the end of my party days. This injustice will probly keep me from getting a steady carrer after I am finised with school. Does Anyone have any info about how I can deal with this matter?

Ps.

Sorry for the grammatical errors and poor sentence structure.

Also, would it be discrimination if someone turns you down for a job because of criminal charges?

Re: Grave Injustice...

I am sorry this case is keeping you from getting a job. There is something you can do. You can seek to "vacate" the conviction. One a conviction is vacated it shall not be included in your criminal history and for housing and employment applications you can say you have never been convicted. How long ago was the crime, when did you finish probation, what court was it in?

If you'd like help vacatng the charge or have further questions contact me directly.
