Gun ownership with a felony

It has been 7 years since my felony. I was 18 years old. How do I now become a legal gun owner?

Re: Gun ownership with a felony - reason irrelevant

The reason for wanting to restore your 2nd Amendment right is absolutely irrelevant.

It matters not why you want to restore your right to possess firearms. If you qualify, your right to possess firearms shall be restored.

Re: Gun ownership with a felony

You must file a petition and order in superior court. You must also have fulfilled all of your obligations under the judgment and sentence and have a Certificate and Order of Discharge.

There are forms available in some counties; however you must ensure that the forms are sufficient. Many are not and have caused problems with NICS.

Be advised that if your offense was a class B felony, you may encounter prosecutors and/or judges who will tell you that you have to wait 10 years.

If you are not confident that you can prevail in a courtroom, you should retain an attorney experienced in this area of law. The issue is often not as simple as filing a form.
