Sentencing issues are too fact specific to give general answers. You'll (or he) will need to get this information from the assigned attorney. Can the prosecutor add additonal counts? Are there aggrevating factors? Are there mitigating factors? Maybe they haven't been honest with you and do have points? If it was a bank robbery it is probably federal and not state so you are in an entirely different (and much harsher) sentencing category.
