Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
i lied about a domestic violence case and now someone is faceing serious charges what do i do to get them off?
1 Answer from Attorneys
You probably want to talk to the accused person's attorney before you post any comments about a case on a public website like this one.
If you lied to the police, or in a sworn statement, you may be exposed to criminal charges yourself. To that end, you may want to speak to your own attorney before anyone else.
Ultimately, the accused person will probably want to get a statement from you, or recommend that you talk to the prosecutor's office to give another account of what happened.
Be prepared for skepticism from the prosecutors. Victims of domestic violence commonly 'recant' their stories for a variety of reasons, so prosecutors sometimes take those recantations with a grain of salt.
