Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

what can i do to get a long time past folony that prevents me from being able to vote? I am a hard working tax payor whos hasn't had any violations of the law for over 15 years or more. My felony envolved a one time domestic violence charge with my ex-wife. I also had a few DUI's but that was also over 10 years ago. I really would like to have my rightsback again. I need to know how to find a good lawyer who can help me without paying more than what is fair. Thanks for the free service of asking this question. Really appreciate this.

Paul Ferris Law Office of Paul T. Ferris

Your question implies that a certificate of discharge has not been filed in your case. Contact the clerk's office and inquire. If one has not been filed, you can find forms at www.courts.wa.gov; navigate to criminal forms.

If a certificate of discharge has been filed, you can vote, serve on a jury and hold elected office, but you cannot possess firearms unless and until an order restoring gun rights has been filed.

The clerk's office may have forms for restoring gun rights.

Note that a recent legislative amendment automatically restored voting rights (only) for most felons no on supervision, even if there are outstanding legal financial obligations. Review RCW 9.94A.637 and 640.
