in sentencing, what is an offender score and how is it calculated?

It is a score using a sentencing grid. Along the left column is the seriousness level of the current offense. Along the top of the chart is the number of prior offenses. The further up and to the right (more serious charge & more prior offenses) the longer the sentence. For some offenses, violence/drugs, each prior may count as multiple points (along the top of the grid).
