Police evidence
How do you get police to release a stolen, recovered pistol back to the owner? It was not involved in a crime.

Re: Police evidence
If it was not used in a crime then showing you are the true owner should be sufficient to get it returned to you. Contact the law enforcement agency that has the gun.

Re: Police evidence
Possession of a stolen firearm is a crime. If the stolen firearm was not, and cannot be proven to have been, in the possession of someone other than the owner, it should be returned to the owner.
Otherwise, it will be held as evidence until the prosecution of the wrongful possessor is resolved.
