Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
police phone call
We received a call from a detective in another nearby city, saying he wished to talk to our adult son about an assault and that someone had picked him out of a photo lineup. He said he wanted to get ''his side of the story''. My son said he witnessed a fight at a party, but did not participate. What should we do? Could he be lying about the lineup?

Re: police phone call
The officer could be lying about anything including wanting to get your son's side of the story. It sounds like your son is being investigated to be charged so you should hire an attorney to assist. Find out what you can about the alleged assault so we can determine the severity of the likely charge. Also, how old is your son?
Your son absolutely should make no further statements to the police or anyone else related to the incident.
