Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Stalking Charge?

I had briefly been seeing a girl for a few weeks, which ended a couple of months ago. When it ended I was concerned that she was pregnant, and three weeks later, I called her to ask. She didnt answer my calls, which concerned me, and I ended up calling her repeatedly that day. The next day, she sent me a text message to say she had filed a police report and I had been charged with stalking. I haven't contacted her since. This was about 7 weeks ago, and I havent been contacted or received any notification of a charge. How long would it normally take?

Re: Stalking Charge?

Thank you for the question. I'm sorry about the situation. You've made a wise choice in choosing not to contact her further. Also, make sure you do pass by her school/home/work for any reason. The charge can take up to 3 years to come against you. The longer the delay the better for you. I'd be surprised if they pursued one series of phone calls as stalking. They might bring telephone harassment charges though if you are calling constantly or at an inconvenient hour. I can track things down for you with the precinct if you would like. If you have any further questions contact me directly.
