Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
stat. of limitataions...
I have a friend who had their children taken away with allegations of abuse (which is not true). It has been four days since the kids were taken away, how long does the sheriff's office have to charge them with a crime?

Re: stat. of limitataions...
The sheriff can take three or more years as the statute of limitations on most crimes. However, the children will have a "dependency" hearing much sooner to decide if they can be placed back with the family (likely with counseling or supervision ordered) or if it they must stay with foster parents until more drastic treatment happens. I've had past clients go through this process. Contact me directly if you'd like more information or further assistance.
