Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington
Teacher in trouble?
I am a teacher. I received a text from a number I did not recognize.
I tried to get them to tell me who it was, with no avail. The discussion was not dirty, but now I am accused of trying to pick up on an 8th grade girl - the one who was texting me anonymously.
I had NO idea who it was...even though I asked...she did not devuldge.

Re: Teacher in trouble?
The main thing is to not make any statements to anyone about the incident. After all, without your statements, there would be no proof that you were the one responding to the texts. If you've made a statement already, do not make any further statements. If the police/school wish to speak with you further, refer them to your attorney. Yes, you should hire an attorney to conduct your defense. You face serious consequences to both your job and your life (registering as a sex offender for example). The texts will be available for both the prosecution and deense to review. They will speak for themselves. Contact me directly if you'd like further assistance.
