Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Unknowingly had a revoked license and was pulled over.

My boyfriend was unaware that his license had been revoked by the DOL due to SR 22 insurance getting cancelled. We never recieved anything in the mail about his license being revoked or his insurance being cancelled, but did find out his insurance statements were being returned. We just moved about 2 weeks ago and he got pulled over on his way to work. They gave him a ticket for driving on sus./revoked license(which had been revoked two days before he got pulled over). He fixed everything that day--he got his insurance stuff straightened out and got his license back the next day. Does he have a chance to get this ticket dropped? Will they even consider the fact that he was completely unaware of this and would have fixed it if he had known about his license sooner? How would this effect his DUI probation?

It is not uncommon that people do not know that their license is suspended or revoked. Most people fail to update the DOL when they move so notices go to old addresses. I've done the same myself. It is very good that your boyfriend took care of the matter right away and now has license and insurance. Based on what you have told me, he is technically guilty of the crime and of violating his probation. Any documetation supporting his story helps with just getting a slap on the wrist. A letter from his work showing he was going there that day. A copy of the change of address to the DOL so that they can see they had an old address but have the correct one now. Of course, a copy of his valid insurance and license. If you would like to consult further or want assistance in court please contact me directly.
