Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

How will I know if charges will be filed?

Someone entered my home through an unlocked basement door. They stole a ten speed bike and left behind an note that clearly shows who the note belonged to. This was verified by the responding officer.

The detective sent the file to the procescuting attorneys office in March of 2007. The suspect is currently in jail on unrelated charges.

My question is, how will I know if charges are filed? What are the steps in this? This is Pierce county.

After charges are filed, at some point the prosecutor will want to speak with you and will subpeona you as a witness in the case. If you want to know before that you'll need to contact the prosecutors' office, find out which prosecutor has the case (use the police incident number) and talk to that prosecutor directly.
