Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

A year and a half ago I was charged with providing alcohol to minors as a result of hosting a college graduation party that freshmen arrived at. The judge had me pay $150 and said the case was left "open" for two years after which it would close if I don't get charged with anything else in that time frame. If I do get charged with something else the new judge would make a decision on my old charges based purely on the police report. The public defender made it very clear that I wasn't pleading guilty or anything but I'm just not sure of the official status of the case. I'm applying for graduate school and the apps all ask if I have any charges pending or a criminal record both of which I'm unsure of how to apply. Any guidance would be appreciated.

You can call the court directly. They can look your case up and explain the status.

You could call your public defender. They can look your case up and do the same.

It sounds like you probably don't have a conviction, just a pending case. But you should confirm that before you go filling out any applications.
