Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Washington

legal dating age

I'm a 16 year old girl who likes a 25 year old guy, and I want to know what the stipulations are about he and I dating. If only parents can press charges then we're fine, but if others' can as well then theres a problem. We really like each other, but he's worried about getting into trouble and I don't blame him. Any answers?

Re: legal dating age

If you and he have sex, he can be charged and convicted of statutory rape. Anyone can file charges. Having sex includes any contact with genitals, among other things.

Otherwise, there's no reason not to hang out and see how compatible you are. But you should both ask yourselves why you're not seeking out partners closer to yourselves in age.
