Re: Can a pregnant woman be fired from her job?

Yes, a pregnant woman can lawfully be fired from her job, but not because she is pregnant. In other words, a woman's pregnancy will not protect her from being fired for legitimate reasons such as poor performance, absenteeism, etc.

Generally, it is unlawful for an employer to use pregnancy as a substantial factor in any employment decision (hire, promote, or terminate). This is considered discrimination "because of sex" and can violate federal, state, local and common laws.
