Do Canada, United Kingdom, and New Zealand allow a U.S. citizen to visit as a tourist if he/she has been convicted of a DUI within the United States?

Good question. For an answer you would want to ask an immigration attorney for the country you seek to enter, not a Washington State criminal defense attorney. Here is contact information for a Canadian immigration attorney:

Re: Foreign Travel after a DUI Conviction
Attorney White has a good answer but I can tell you more specifically that a person who has been convicted of a DUI in the United States will not be admitted to Canada as a DUI/DWI is a felony in Canada. I have had clients turned back at the border crossing when they have either shown a restricted license (Probationary) or have had their names run on a computer. As for the UK and New Zealand, I would contact their respective embassies or consulates and not an attorney as such inquiry may cost you money. The person desiring to cross into any of these countries should use a passport and not a driver's license as the crossing personnel rarely ask for a second ID if a passport is shown. A passport will not show criminal history. Check the phone book under consulates and embassies for Seattle. Good Luck!
