How long does a DUI stay on your record?

I may have to travel to Canada for company training. I was convicted of a DUI in 1989. I got another one in 1993, went through diversion program successfully (have not drank since).

My questions is two-fold, can Canada see the first conviction if it's in my criminal history? Is it in my criminal history or driving record?

Can Canada see the second DUI?

I recommend you check your own record by ordering it through the Washington State Patrol. For legal assistance, you'll likely need to contact the attorney that assisted you because I was not aware that courts were allowing diversions on DUI's in 1993. Or, you can get all of your court records and review them with an attorney.

The current law is that DUI's that result in dismissal for deferred prosecution (DP) remain on your record 5 years after completion of the DP (which takes a minimum of two years) . However, your question probably should be redirected to a Canadian attorney that does Canadian (not American) Immigration. He/she will know best what records Canada gets when reviewing someone's criminal history.
