Legal Question in DUI Law in Washington

WA state dui

Arrested for DUI 12-25-2003, complied with everything but ADIS, mistakingly thought I had done it. Have reciepts for everything else. Moved from King to Pierce county Jan 2006. Spotless record before dui and since. Found out through background ck at job that I had a warrant out since 1-23-08. Took immediate steps to clear warrant through a bailbondsman, acquired info and scheduled ADIS for 3-28-09 recieved summons to appear at Burien ct 4-20-09 is it likely that I can get this quashed after submitting ADIS to court clerk? What the hell, I made a mistake 5 1/2 years ago, no accident, no one hurt, etc. I lost my frickin job over this because I moved and they couldn't find me when everyone else did. Filed change of address with post office, even went to D.O.L. and got a replacement license after losing mine in Sept, 08. Had no idea I had a warrant. I'm so pissed.

Re: WA state dui

Step one: calm down. It definitely won't do you any good to go to court "pissed". Remermber: YOU made the mistake of thinking you complied with everything. Not the court. So you MUST go in in an apologetic stance: "I'm so sorry...thought I did everything..." Step two: bring a copy of something showing you completed ADIS. Step three: emphasize to the court that YOU took steps to clear the warrant and get a court date.

I don't know the court in Burien, but it's been my experience that if a defendant came forward (instead of being caught on the warrant), showed he has rectified the situation, AND hasn't been in any trouble since, the court is likely to let it pass.

Good luck.
