How does one obtain adoption records and who should one contact to get adoption information (the state, adoption agency)?

Depending on how much you know about the adoption already, and what your relationship is to the adoptee, natural and adoptive parents, the answer may change as to what to expect for a result. What you can expect is that the court records are sealed and that if you want access to them you will have to make a motion to unseal them (and give a good reason for unsealing them). You can expect that, without a court order, the agency is not going to give you the records if they were sealed.
