Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Can I agree to give up home ownership?

My husband and I of 10 yrs currently live in a 2 family dwelling with my in-laws which they own. We are considering purchasing the home from them. They want to be sure neither they nor my husband are displaced should we ever get divorced (not planning to) I am willing to sign a contract to give up the majority of the equity (up to 66%) in the home should this happen. Can we legally do this?

Yes, you can contract for that in an agreement. You will need to execute the agreement before a notary (as it is an agreement relating to real estate). I would encourage you to hire an attorney to prepare the agreement.
