Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Appearing in court for disolution of marriage.
I was wondering if I had to appear before a judge in person to complete my disolution of marriage in king county seattle washington. I am currently in Japan and my court date is approaching, I was wondering if I could just sign some papers and not have to fly back just for one day in court. there are no disputes over property, no kids and no assets between us. No problems exist. I look forward to your response.

Re: Appearing in court for disolution of marriage.
Lincoln County has structured its rules to facilitate dissolutions of marriage without a party appearing. I have not heard of King County doing that and I don't think it is set up to do that. Only one party has to appear, and it can be either party. I have done two dissolutions where the party who was not my client appeared and I walked them through the presentation of testimony and final documents.
