Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Brother Died Power of Attorney

My brother recently died unexpectedly. I'm trying to wrap up some of his affairs. He had no will or POA.

Is it possible to obtain one now that he is dead?

Mike

Re: Brother Died Power of Attorney

Only a person who is alive can make a will or grant power of attorney (and power of attorney ends at death, because the agent can only do what the principal could do). A relative of a dead person can petition to be appointed executor of the dead person's estate.
