Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
care of mother
My mother (84yrs) lives in arkansas
near my brother, recently she has
been unable to care for herself due
to mental disorientation. my brother
is looking after her affairs and is
arranging housing etc.. he is frequently asked if I (I live in washington) concur or need to be contacted. I need a form allowing him to make these decisions that indicates I agree to concur with whatever he decides or arranges that he deems to be in the best interest of my mother. is there a standard form I can get or what do I do ?

Re: care of mother
Your mother sounds as though she may no longer be competent (I don't know enough about her situation to tell, though) and there is no form that lets you sign off on decision making.
This is an Arkansas problem because that's where your mother is.
You might want to contact Adult Protective Services in the county where she resides and see if they want to assist with a guardianship. If your family has resources, you should discuss setting up a guardianship with private counsel in Arkansas.
I know this isn't much help, but . . .
The Health Insurance Portability and Privacy Act (HIPPA) prevents medical care providers from disclosing information related to their patients to other persons. It doesn't prevent other persons from providing information to the medical care providers, however.
But why your brother is being asked as to whether you concur with his decision making makes no sense.
Might be worth a trip down there to sort it all out and make sure she's OK.
