Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Name Change After Divorce

I am not sure if I want to change my name back to my Maiden name after my divorce. If we include a request in the ''Petition for Dissolution of Marriage'' to change my name back to my married name, does that mean that I am required to change my name on all documents or will that just give me the option to change my name at a later time? I understand that if I don't include that request then I will have to get a separate court order at a later date that will cost me more fees.

Re: Name Change After Divorce

I am somewhat confused about what you are trying to do. You indicate you may want to change your name back to your maiden name, but you also mention putting a request for change of name back to your married name in the petition. Ultimately, what matters is what the decree says. If the decree says your name is changed, then it is changed when the court orders it (grants the decree).
