Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Changing the last name of minor child
I would like to know what needs to be done to change the last name of my step-daughter.
On her birth certificate it lists her mother's last name. (No middle name)
My husband and her mother were never married.
Her birth certificate lists her mother and my husband as her father.
We pay child support and are on good terms with the child and her mother.
Her mother has agreed that if she would like to hypenate her last name to her's and ours she is okay with this.
I would just like to know what I need to do now to be able to change it legally.
We are all currently living in the same area in Washington but her birth certificate is from the state of California.

Re: Changing the last name of minor child
You can do a name change in district court, for a minor, both parents would have to sign the petition.
