changing my son's last name to my new married name

I would like to (ok, need to) change my sons current last name. I put on the birth certificate that the father was UNKNOWN, because I knew he would never get his stuff together and change his wild,partying lifestyle for a baby.Plus I heard from a few people that if I just left the Father's name blank, it wouldn't be as hard to get my sons name changed later down the road??? That is a loaded question! Sounds as though you have a good idea who your son's father is, but didn't identify him. Depending on how old your son is, you may have issues regarding support and parentage.

Persons who are not lawyers can sometimes provide advice that backfires, and that may well have happened here.
