Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

child cusody

I am seperated from my toddler age child's dad ,and I recently was given emergency custody of her. Her dad has been using drugs and had a positive drug test, and will need to have a chemical dependency evaluation and treatment. Is it likely that I will be awarded permamanent custody of my child? Dad also has a criminal history and threatening behavior towards me, I have no criminal history or history of any drug problems. What is the standard progression of these types of cases?

Re: child cusody

My crystal ball is broken, but if you have a decent relationship with your child and don't have your own drug problems, and you have a decent attorney you will probably be named the primary residential parent.

WA doesn't call it custody.

What happens next is subject to a whole host of variables and I could write a dissertation about what could happen or the "standard" progression.

I wish you all the best, but my advice boils down to: Talk to a lawyer. If you cannot afford one, contact your county Bar and ask if they have a family law clinic.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
