Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Child custody/Step Parent

I have been married two years and have a 9 year old daughter, who has never seen her bilogical father. I want to have her last name changed to my married name and give my husband parental rights.

What steps do I need to take to make this happen? I do not know where my daughter's biological father is, although I have his SS#. He didn't want to be involved and didn't offer financial help.

I just want my hew husband to have all the rights and priveledges to my daughter and her custodial welfare as I do.

Re: Child custody/Step Parent

What you are really looking for is a step-parent adoption.

These are much easier when the natural father agrees and relinquishes his parental rights. With an uninterested parent, it is often easy to get them to sign away parental rights because they are scared of having to pay support or even back support.

Then you got to court in your local county and do the step-parent adoption.
