Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Doesn't Child Support Guarantee Rights?
My boyfriend has not seen his daughters in 4 years. He made the major mistake of not showing up to the custody hearing out of anger towards his ex-girlfriend. He was naive of the consequences and is now paying for it. The case was in Washington state and by default he was given the max penalty. He pays child support and provides medical insurance but has been led to believe that he has no rights to his children. He says the only thing he can do is hire a lawyer for several thousands of dollars and serve his ex papers for visitation rights, but she has the right to flat-out deny this. He cannot even be given a contact address or phone number. He was not abusive to his ex or his daughters. I find it rediculous that he would never have rights to his kids despite the fact he is paying child support. Please advise.

Read WAC 388-14A-2107 and following (http://www.leg.wa.gov/wac/index.cfm?fuseaction=Section&Section=388-14A-2107) regarding requesting address information.
Go to http://www.courts.wa.gov/forms/ for forms to represent himself in establishing a parenting plan.

Your boyfriend now has to pursue legal action and prove to the court that his ill feelings against the mother were also not directed at his children. Yes, it will take "several thousands of dollars" to undo what has been done but the result will probably be worth it in the end. I would be happy to help him with this situation.
