Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Child support & medical

My ex-husband has not been paying his child support and is apx $2800 behind, as well as divorce papers say he is suppossed to cover children for medicl, dental & vision. I need to know what my next step should be, I have contacted support enforcement and they haven't been able to help much. Please advise as I need medical, etc. for my girls.

Re: Child support & medical

Support enforcement can't bring a contempt action over $2,800 but you can. You can retain counsel or do it yourself.

It is complicated. If you have access to a family law facilitator or a clinic they may be able to answer your questions so you can do it yourself. Otherwise, consider getting a lawyer.

The lawyer can, in this situation, ask you to sign a contingency agreement where your fees can come out of the recovery. This may help attract an attorney if money is an issue.

Also, this is a good time of year because if he's working for wages he'll be expecting a tax return soon.

Hope this helps. Powell
