Child needs help!

17 yo female, lost mother Aug. 06, no father on birth cert., kicked out of Great Aunt's house. Aunt will not let her get any of her belongings (ie: I.D., birth cert., cat, CLOTHES, any personal belongings. She resides with us now (for 6 weeks). What can we do?

You have some options. You can file a third-party custody action; you can call DSHS and get CPS involved; you can do nothing.

As for her stuff - you can file a replevin action in superior court and require the aunt to show cause why she should not immediately turn over the 17 year old's stuff. The Court can and frequently will award the plaintiff fees and costs to be paid by the defendant for the necessity of going though this headache to get her stuff.

Alternatively, you can WRITE to the Aunt and tell her that if she doesn't hand over the property right now, you are going to ask a judge to order her to return the property promptly.
