Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Custody

Can a father keep his child if the parents were never married and there are no custody paperwork? What legal rights does the father have since there is no legal custody papers? Does the father legally have to give the child back to the mother or does the father have the legal right to keep the child?

Re: Custody

Until paternity is established for the child, the father really has no rights. It is advisable for a father to file a petition to establish paternity asap.
