Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

custody

after 13 years of raising a child as a single parent, the non-custodial parent has gone into court and gotten temporary custody of the 13 year old child. The non-custodial parent lied to the court by stating that he had given me notice of the hearring, which he never did. i was not present at any of the hearrings here recently and as a result he was given temporary custody, which will be permenant on october 14, 2007. He also put a restraing order up against me keeping me from having any contact with my child, however I have not seen him in over 5 years and when I spoke with him he was the one who initiated contact. Also at age 11 years the child was heard in a child support case by an administrative judge, she informed the judge that she did not wish to have contact with the non-custodial parent due to emotional trauma. What do I do to get this matter turned around so my child can be returned to me?

Re: custody

What a mess. There is more going on here than you say. You really need to have a consult with local counsel who can help you.

Also, children don't testify in court. What you do now is lawyer up with the best attorney you can afford.

If money is an issue, call Volunteer Legal Services or look up tacomaprobono.org.
