deceased mother

Mother went to live with her sister 4 years ago. Sister had power of attorney, guardianship is she intitled to keep all belongings. Son and daughter wanting a few family things of no monetary value.

Sister's power of attorney ended when your mother died - she is not the executor of your mother's estate.

You and your brother are the heirs of your motber's estate and get to decide what happens to her property. If she left a will, she may have named someone else.

Your aunt may not know that you want some of your mother's things. Have you talked to her?
