Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Divorce & Property Settlement Agreement

My exhusband filed the above document in a different county and hand typed a letter and mailed it to me indicating that the above has been filed and if I do not comply other courses of action will be taken. I contacted the court and they had no information as to what the compliancy issue is. Is that legal?

Re: Divorce & Property Settlement Agreement

I can't tell. Did your husband file in Lincoln County, but you don't live there? If so, you have an absolute right to have the dissolution action removed to the County where you live.

This is not self help law. Look for a family law attorney who offers unbundled services if money is an issue for you.

You cannot agree to a settlement agreement that you have not seen. You cannot be formally served by your husband, nor yet by mail.

The Court can make and send you copies of what is in their file if you ask really nicely. That way you will know what he filed, and you can take it with you for your consult with a local attorney. Anything else is just conjecture.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
