Divorce now

"I have been seperated from my husband for 10 years and have no idea where he is to file for a divorce. I would like to get married again. How would I go about doing this and do I really need to hire an attorney?

Re: Divorce now

Go to my website at http://www.olywa.net/preblelaw/washingt.htm#Forms where I link to the Supreme court forms with a handy chart.

As to service, you'll need to make diligent efforts to locate him. Then you can publish by court order. The domestic forms are there for this purpose. See RCW 2.28.100 and .110, located at http://search.leg.wa.gov/wslrcw/RCW%20%20%204%20%20TITLE/RCW%20%20%204%20.%2028%20%20CHAPTER/RCW%20%20%204%20.%2028%20%20chapter.htm for the law on publication.

As to whether you can do it without a lawyer, sure. But to borrow an analogy, how much grease do want on yourself, and how many busted knuckles do you want. And are you confident that you can follow the procedures correctly?
