Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
divorce under threat
I was threatened by my wife last year that if I didn't give her a power of attorney that she would file a restraining order and never let me see my kids. I did it. She emptied my bank account this week and then had me meet with her and have me sign divorce papers. I did not know that she had taken over 17,000 dollars from me or that she had divorce papers. I signed them because once again she threatened me with a restraining order and to make sure that I would never see my kids again. She wouldn't let me read them, she said she had to leave in 15 minutes. I asked to take them home and read them and she said that if I didn't sign them now that she would file the restraining order the next morning. Do I have any recourse?

Re: divorce under threat
Well, that sounds like extortion from here.
You need to lawyer up before you lose your children. I would be happy to give you a referral if you call.
The lesson here is that you should not take legal advice from your ex; I know it doesn't sound like legal advice, but a judge is the one who determines custody, not your ex.
Hope this helps. Powell
