Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Divorce in Washington State

How long should you be married before you are entitled to a half interest in property that is the husband's separate estate (family home)? My husband owned the home prior to our marriage and I do not own my home (I sold it when we married). We have been married three years in November 2007. Please help. I need to know what to expect as far as equitable distribution and how long do I have to be married to receive anything. I sold my home (that I owned prior to our marriage) to his mother, at a loss, to pay her back for him....though I know that what my loss for ''being nice'' and showing my intent to my husband. However, our marriage has lots of problems and problems with a stepchild and ex-wife. I have a son with my husband, but this home is not a good environment and is very dysfunctional as far as differences in parenting the stepchild.

Re: Divorce in Washington State

Title doesn't control necessarily, and all property belonging to the parties, whether separate or community, is before the court for a just and equitable distribution.

Your local bar association can provide you referrals to local attorneys who can help you. Or, you can research them yourself at avvo.com (a v v o).
