Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Can I get a divorce from someone that I haven't seen in over 2 years?
I was married in Jan. 03 and I have no joint property or children with my husband. We have never lived together and haven't spoken since about 4 months after the marriage. I don't know where he is and when I call his parent they won't answer the phone, so they won't tell me where he is to get a divorce either. I have really given up hope, but I would really like this resolved soon. He was kicked out of the navy a few months after we were married for using drugs and I told him I didn't want anything to do with him after that, and he dissapeared. Where do I start and is it possible for me to be divorced quickly and easily? I am unable to get his signatures on anything and I don't want to pay too much either because I think it would be realatively easy to get a divorce from him since we have no shared assets or liabilities. Any advice?

Yes, you can get divorced. You would have to have made a reasonable investigation to show that he can not be located. Then, when you file the petition and summons you would have to also file a motion to allow service by publication. Then the summons is published in the local (Island County?) paper of record, and wait 90 days and get a divorce by default.
