Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
divorcing your parents
I know there is a difference between emancipation and divorcing your parents. Or so I have been told. What do you have to do in order to divorce your parents? I've been told your parents cannot stop you with that one! Is that true? How long would it take?

Re: divorcing your parents
I'm sorry but there is no such thing as divorcing your parents. Divorce is the end of a marriage - and you are not a party to your parents marriage, and thus do not have standing to divorce either one of them.
If you are completely serious about becoming emancipated, contact CPS and ask them to explain filing an At-Risk Youth Petition on your own behalf.
But tread gently - when you invite the State into your life, you lose control over the outcome of the proceedings you could initiate.
If you are completely prepared to wind up in foster care, then go ahead. If not, think carefully about what you are proposing.
Judges do not suffer fools gladly, and the tone of your question does not suggest you are being neglected or abused, more that you want to get out from under your parent's control.
Hope this helps explain your options.
