Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Domestic Partner split
My partner and I have been together about 6 years and we are now at the point we can no longer be together. We own 2 house, 2 cars and other basic community property that is obtained throughout the years. I have worked for the las 5 years as the only employed person and she has not worked in 5 years only receives child support. How do we go about disolving our relationship and who gets what when she wants to take everything? Also we were planning on adopting her nephew (who is ward of the state, placed as relative care) but if we do can she recieve $ for the state as well as ask for childsuport? Thank you for you time

Re: Domestic Partner split
You are asking good questions and you deserve to have a qualified, local attorney sit down, review your situation and give you advice based upon what they find in the documents.
There have been some recent upheavals in the law related to committed, domestic relationships that will affect the outcome of this matter. Also, I would strongly recommend that you do a search on collaborative law and learn about that, because it can be a great way to keep the costs down.
Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
