Legal Question in Family Law in Washington
Domestic Partners Rights
If a couple has been living together for more than 5 years as partners, and they split up, can the man be required to pay temporary assistance to the woman until she can support herself? The woman has not worked other than working in the home, tending to his children and his home, while he got a college degree. Also, if the man dies, and wills no money, or home, to the woman, can she contest the will and win?

Re: Domestic Partners Rights
Maintenance is not ordered in meretricious cases.
And you have to prove a meretricious relationship to begin with.
If this man dies, his children are his heirs. Contesting his will would be fruitless. If he doesn't have a will, his children take anyway.
You may want to talk with a family law attorney about how to handle this.
