Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Eviction of Adult children living in the home

I currently have two (2) adult children residing in my home (rent free, no contractual agreement) I would like to pack their belongings, change locks, and evict them (today) The adult children say that I cannot do this??? What are my rights as the property owner??? (especially since they do not pay rent)

Re: Eviction of Adult children living in the home

A lot depends upon what your verbal agreement is with your children. Even gratuitous tenants may have rights if it can be construed that they are tenants and they have in some way contributed to your household. The very most obligation you may owe them is a 20 day notice to vacate given at least 20 days before the end of the month. That would be today! If they do not leave, you will have to take them both to court. You may have to get the Sheriff out to your house to have them evicted if they ignore court orders to vacate. Good Luck!
