Born in 1947, adopted in 1956 - court order to change name not enforced. Do not have a birth cert for my legal name. How do I fix this? Have copy of order to change name.

Take the order to change name to the State and tell them that you want to correct your birth certificate. Use the order to change your name as evidence of your right to do this.

The correct department will depend on where you were born. The state maintains records, and some counties do as well. You could start looking at access.wa.gov if you were born in Washington to determine who you need to talk to.
