Legal Question in Family Law in Washington

Father Doesn't Pay Half

I've been divorced from my ex-husband for 8 yrs. We divorced in Nebraska. He signed a legal document, stating that I could move out of state, that he gets no overnight visitation, and that our daughter could not be near his now wife. His reason for this, is because his choice for a divorce was a mistake, and didn't want our daughter involved in the mess.

I've always left the door open for him to be a part of her life. He doesn't visit, call, or pay half of anything. The only help I get, is the child support garnished. I moved to Washington to live with family and better my daughter's life by finishing my degree. He still gave the o.k. for us to move. BUT, he disappears for months. We don't have a # or address to reach him. He just resurfaced. I asked for this info, and he refuses to give it. I told him, I need to receipts of what he owes, need to be able to notify him of emergencies..etc...he just refuses, and also just says he doesn't have the $ to pay daycare, medical bills, braces, violin...etc. for my daughter. These aren't options, and I can't afford everything. My daughter is 10 1/2 now. What can I do, to make him start helping?

Re: Father Doesn't Pay Half

You can register your decree here in WA and ask the Family Support Division of your local prosecuting attorney's office to start enforcement action. They can and will do that.

You could also move to modify the support award. You could seek enforcement of the parenting plan. You have options.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
